As we approach the end of 2014, Android users are getting anxious about the release of Google's next version of its flagship device. And with earlier rumors centering around the possibility of the Nexus line being phased out completely, fans are a bit worried and confused about what's next.

According to reliable tech leak source Evleaks, the Nexus 6 plans were scrapped to introduce a brand new device called Android Silver. Despite the fact that it sounds like some sort of multivitamin, Android Silver was first rumored back in April of this year as a "premium Android experience" with fewer included apps and more syncronicity between Android versions (a notorious problem with Android devices) as a main selling point.

But word soon came that the rumors of Nexus' death were greatly exaggerated and it's actually the Android Silver that's future is questioned. According to sources close to the website Android Authority, October 15 or 16 will not only see the Nexus 9 tablet's debut, but also definitive information on Android's next operating system (now only know as Android L), and the Nexus 6. The website does add that this unveiling of Android L may only be a teaser with availability looking more likely for November 1st.

The big question is whether or not Android L and the Nexus 6 will be introduced simultaneously. The Nexus 6 will most likely be the first device to feature this new OS update, so it only makes sense that they'd be announced at the same time per Google's track record. Naming conventions are also falling in line as speculation involves a codename of Shamu (following Google's tradition of naming device projects after fish) and a retail product name of Nexus X instead of following the numerical progression with Nexus 6.

So will Google release the Nexus 6 (or X) with much-deserved hype, or will the company opt to simply release a press statement and a quiet launch as it did with the Nexus 5? Hopefully we don't have long to wait for that answer.
