Wilmer Valderrama officially became part of the "Grey's Anatomy" cast after appearing in the "I Wear the Face" episode on April 7. According to the star and insiders of the medical drama, he plays a recurring character in the series.

Although Valderrama has already appeared in various television and film projects, he will always be known my many viewers as Fez, the foreign exchange student from the comedy series "That 70s Show."

But for the actor, his participation in "Grey's Anatomy" and his other genre-diverse projects is his way of expanding his experience and skill set as an actor. Although he is a good comedic actor, he also wants to be known for his other acting chops through dramatic roles.

"I did eight years and 200 episodes of 'That 70s Show,' and after that I was looking to exercise a different muscle," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I fell in love with a different tone. I like finding humor within drama formats, and I like high-concept stuff too."

"Ultimately, it became about challenging myself to do things that weren't in my comfort zone that I hadn't done before," Valderrama added.

As for his role in "Grey's Anatomy," Valderrama plays Kyle Diaz, an aspiring musician who checks into the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after experiencing tremors in his right hand. His character fears that this condition might hinder him from scoring his big break in the music scene.

Then, as he meets the doctors of the hospital, he focuses on Stephanie Edwards, played by Jerrika Hinton. Although he initially flirts with the other characters, it seems he is really fixated on getting Edwards' attention.

"He sees her as a very fun, exciting and sexy challenge - and someone who is very unique, who caught his eye on a different level," he said. "We'll see the evolution of that and how he will make her believe in him."

It is not yet clear how long Diaz will be staying at Grey Sloan or how many episodes Valderrama will appear in the show. He recently told Variety that the writers of the series have not yet drafted his last episode which means it could take a while before he leaves the set.

Although he did not go into detail regarding the fate or health status of his character, the actor noted that something bug is about to happen to Diaz in the future episodes.
