On March 5, 2015, actor Harrison Ford crashed his vintage World War II single-engine airplane on a Venice Beach golf course after the engine failed on a flight over Los Angeles. The actor has been recovering at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and receiving daily visits from his wife, Calista Flockhart, and it is still not known how the accident will affect his upcoming roles or when he will be released.
The accident was quite severe as Ford broke his pelvis and both ankles are hurt. According to the Daily Mail, he has a head wound on his face and a scalp that "is the size of a pancake". An eyewitness to the accident said that the head injury looked as long as six inches, but the doctors have stated that this wound "will heal with time".
Harrison Ford is currently recovering in an LA hospital, but the 72-year-old actor receives visits from wife and actress, Calista Flockhart, who brings him food and reading material, according to People. She often drops by the hospital after taking their 14-year-old son, Liam, to school. The couple wed in 2010 after eight years of being together, and have shared that this crash and its aftermath have been "terrifying" for the both of them.
The International Business Times has reported that Calista has forbidden Harrison Ford to fly after the accident, but this is still just a rumor. Ford has been flying for many years, but there are concerns that the actor is "pushing his physical limits beyond what a man his age should be doing".
Harrison Ford is an actor that first appeared in many guest roles on TV shows, and then appearances in movies from George Lucas like American Graffitti, the scoundrel smuggler Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy, and the iconic Indiana Jones. He has also played the well-known Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan in two films, and well as the classic TV character Richard Kimble in The Fugitive.
He will appear again as Han Solo in the new chapter of Star Wars when The Force Awakens is released on December 18, 2015, and also plans to appear in a sequel to Blade Runner, another iconic film. Paleofuture reports that Harrison Ford has read the script for the Blade Runner sequel and thought "it was the best he had ever read". There are also rumors that Harrison could appear in a fifth Indiana Jones movie, and there have been rumors that Chris Pratt could take over that role.
It is not known how this accident will affect his acting jobs. Last year, during the filming of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the actor's foot was broken due to a malfunctioning hydraulic door. The injury did cause shooting of the latest Star Wars movie to be shut down for two weeks, according to Cinema Blend. Reports initially said that he could be off of his feet for almost eight weeks, but was on the mend shortly afterward. Hopefully, he will be released from the hospital soon after these injuries.
