No one likes to get stuck with a smartphone that is unable to feature the latest operating system version, or has reached the end of the road. For those who have a soft spot for the Nokia brand name, surely you would know that there is a trio of fantastic Android-powered options to rock to in the form of the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. Interestingly enough, HMD Global, the company that has the license to produce Nokia-branded handsets, has just confirmed that all of the three mentioned smartphones are eligible for the Android 8.0 Oreo update when that operating system version is released.
On a side note, HMD Global has also confirmed that the Nokia 6 smartphone would be arriving in the UK this coming August 2nd, so if you have been on the lookout for that upper range Android-powered Nokia smartphone, then it is less than a couple of weeks left to wait. Apart from that, there is another flagship Nokia smartphone that is waiting in the wings -- the Nokia 9, which should see HMD Global boost its global portfolio even further.
After all, existing Nokia-branded Android-powered smartphones have proven to be popular enough on their own. This definitely warrants the release of a new flagship for the once mighty Nokia to set its mark in the world of smartphones once again. In fact, the Nokia 6 is said to be facing shortages, with stock of the device selling out almost as soon as it is made available.
The Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 smartphones have received official confirmation from HMD Global that all three smartphones will be on the receiving end of the Android 8.0 Oreo update when it is released. What will Android 8.0 Oreo bring to the table? For starters, the Google I/O conference that was held earlier this year showcased a number of Android 8.0 Oreo features (although it is most likely that Google has not revealed everything that is in the bag for Android 8.0), and it looks set to be yet another positive jump from the existing Android 7.0 Nougat.
Do take note that there is no official name attached to Android 8.0 just yet, but with the letter ‘O’ being used as next in line, most people are going to take their chances with Oreo. After all, Oreo is a famous cookie snack that more or less ingrained its name into the consciousness of millions, or perhaps billions around the world, making it easier to accept and reference to upon availability. The thing is, with so many flavors of Oreo going around, will we see variants like Oreo Chocolate, Oreo Peanut Butter & Chocolate?
There is no official launch date for Android 8.0 Oreo just yet, with speculation pointing to a Q3 2017 release date. However, all of it is just pure whispers at the moment, and neither did HMD Global reveal as to when Nokia buyers are able to see the Android 8.0 Oreo update hit their respective Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 smartphones.
Based on past release dates, it would be realistic to say that it will require some more time for HMD Global to make Android 8.0 ready for their three devices (and who knows, perhaps the Nokia 9 as well?). This has always been the case with different smartphone manufacturers, and if you would like to be first in line for the latest version of Android, it would be best to stick to a Google-branded device like the Pixel or Nexus series.
