Homeland Season 5
Homeland Season 5 premieres on Oct. 4, 2015 and will touch on Russian President Vladimir Putin, Islmic militant Isis, NSA leaker Edward Snowden and the Charlie Hebdo incident.

Showtime's Homeland Season 4 will see Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) dealing with the anguish of abandoning her child, even though she already come to terms with being bipolar.

"Emotionally, [Carrie] has stabilized, and the mental illness that we've dealt with, she has now dealt with," Homeland' executive producer Meredith Stiehm said to reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on July 18. "She's going into this season very steady."

In the next season, Carrie will take up the position of station chief in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Based on the more recent trailer, her missions will take her into dangerous territory that includes Pakistan. All the while, Carrie is somehow reminded of the baby she left behind.

"She's in a completely different role now that she's overseas," Stiehm explained. "The baby exists as a marker for her, emotionally ... but she was forced to leave the child at home."

At the end of Season 3, Carrie becomes pregnant with Nicholas "Nick" Brody's (Damian Lewis) child in an ill-fated affair. Brody was later captured and executed during a mission for the CIA, leaving their unborn child fatherless. Eventually, Carrie gives birth and makes the difficult decision to put the baby up for adoption. Instead, her father decides to adopt the child.

Showrunners recently confirmed that Brody's wife Jessica and his daughter Dana will not be returning to the series. With Nick's death, the Homeland storyline will be entirely revamped. Much of the action in Season 4 takes place in the Middle East, whereas in previous seasons the setting was primarily in the domestic United States. Also, new cast members have been introduced to compliment the new storyline.

Homeland Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on Showtime on Oct. 5 at 9pm ET.
