On October 7, 2015, one day after Microsoft made its big announcement of the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book, HP made some personal computer and tablet announcements of their own in Barcelona. Based on their recent press release, this is what we know of HP's newest products including the Envy 34-inch curved panel, HP Steam 11.6 and 13.3 diagonal notebooks, HP Steam 11 Pro G2, HP Envy Note 8, and the Star Wars Special Edition notebook.
According to PC World, HP introduced an Envy 34-inch curved panel with Intel's latest 6th generation Skylake CPU. The monitor provides some wide viewing angles with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 on its 21:9 aspect ratio, and it is Technicolor certified. The RAM options include 8 GB or 16 GB of DDR4 storage options, varying from 128 GB SSDs to 2 TB hard drives and hybrid drives. The Envy 34 costs about $1,800, and there are other flat screen panels like the 24-inch Envy starting at $1,000 and the 27-inch Envy starting at $2,700.
HP also unveiled the HP Stream 11.6 inch and 13.3 inch diagonal notebooks. There are very "colorful, think and light PCs at an affordable price", according to Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager at HP Consumer Personal Systems. The 11.6-inch will be available on October 18, 2015 for $199.99, and the 13.3 will be available on October 18, 2015 for $299. With the announcement of the two new notebooks came the Stream Notebook for Education, the HP Stream 11 Pro G2, available on October 12, 2015 for $249.00.
Also unveiled today was the HP Envy Note 8, which is an 8-inch tablet that has an optional Bluetooth keyboard for viewing in landscape and portrait mode. There is a stylus that comes with the tablet, along with HP Instant Note for quick use. The Note 8 is powered by an Intel Atom x5-Z8300 with Intel HD Graphics, with up to 6.25 hours of battery life. The HP Envy Note 8 will be available in the United States at select retailers and the company website on November 8, 2015. The starting price for the tablet and stylus is $329, with the tablet, stylus, and keyboard folio at $429.
Also on display was a Star Wars Special Edition notebook, designed to tie-in to the worldwide release of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It is decorated with Star Wars stormtroopers, as well as a touchpad design that mirrors the X-Wing Guidance system with a red backlit keyboard. It comes with a 15.6 inch diagonal display, choice of Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, 2 TB of HDD, 12 GB of RAM, and a 7 hour battery life. The Star Wars Special Edition notebook will be available on November 8, 2015 for a starting price of $699.99, but it can be pre-ordered now.
