Ever since the HTC One M9 was announced at mobile World Congress, it wasn't made known the release date or price. Unfortunately, we don't really have any more details since its official unveiling last week, but we do know it will be carried by Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T, as well as some idea of its release date and price.
Last week, the best HTC One M9 estimate that I could get was from CNET which promised a mid-March release sometime in Asia in four colors, and it should cost £549 / $649 / AU$849, according to Tech Radar. There are reports that Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile want to have the One M9 available sometime in the Spring, while Verizon wants to have it available in "early Q2".
I actually have some confirmation on the $649 price as TechFrag recently found an online pre-order page which listed the HTC One M9 with that price, but no carrier details. HTC apparently give it a price of $599 at Mobile World Congress, and they seem to be sticking with the "mid-March" release date. As for the carriers, you can be certain that AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile will be offering it when they get their hands on it.
For those unaware of the HTC One M9, it is a follow-up to the HTC One M8 flagship phone. It was anticipated for a while, and rumored that it was going to be unveiled at CES last January when it was actually officially announced at Mobile World Congress 2015.
The One M9 comes with what we have reported on it before. CNET reports that it has a metal body with a gold and silver finish, along with a 5-inch screen with sapphire glass. The processor is a Snapdragon 810, which is Qualcomm's newest high-end processor, and the camera on the back is a quality 20 Megapixels. Another big feature will be HTC Sense 7, an Android skin that will allow users to personalize their handsets, and yes, it will come with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) right out of the box.
Engadget reports that the M9 One looks very similar in its design to its predecessor, the On M8. That is, it has the same unibody design, and uses the trademark BoomSound speakers. It is narrower, shorter, and thicker, but the design is quite similar. The battery capacity is now at 2,840 mAh, which should be enough to get this phone through a full day on one charge.
One thing that is very interesting is the camera of the HTC One M9, as it will have a f/2.2, 27.8 mm lens, which makes it capable of 4K video recording. I have to admit, it is pretty impressive to see a mobile phone have the same ability as a GoPro HERO4. As for the front-facing camera, it uses UltraPixels at 4 Meagpixels.
It certainly looks like the HTC One M9 will be in the hands of consumers very soon, and hopefully Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T will offer a low contract price.
