Last week, Apple released an update to its infamous Operating System, iOS. The new iOS 9.2 update happened quickly as it was confirmed a week after iOS 9.1. In the iOS 9.2 upgrade, new features were debuted, but new bugs and problems were spotted. In case you are concerned about jailbreaking iOS 9.2, that also could take a while.
According to Gotta Be Mobile, the iOS 9.2 update brings new features, new enhancements, new bug fixes, and new security patches to the iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch. Forbes states that it is compatible with the iPhone 4S or later, the iPad 2 or later, the iPad mini or later, the 5th generation iPod Touch or later, as well as the new iPad Pro. It is a 250 MB download, and it will prompt users to upgrade to it automatically.
Several new features are worth noting, such as a new "Top Stories" section of Apple News that compiles what it believes to be the most important news of the day. These stories are curated by Apple News editors for many different updates a day.
In addition to the changes for Apple News, there are many changes in store for Apple Music. For example, there is a Download button to save songs for offline listening, and an upgraded classical music section as well.
Also included in the update is USB Camera Adapter Support, which allows the transfer of photos and video directly from a camera.
iBooks also gets itself some changes as it gains support 3D Touch. This means that Books, Contents and Notes gain a "Peek and Pop" support while a dictionary search can be performed on any word selected with just a pressure push.
Safari's updates include a "Safari View Controller" that allows it to support third party Action Extensions. So if it is opened inside a third party app, then it has access to third party extensions.
Mail Drop has finally arrived on the iPhone and iPad, using the iCloud Drive within the Mail app to easily send files of up to 5 GB.
There is also NumberSync, which allows the user to answer phone calls with any device, even if the phone is not around.
In addition to the number of new features, the iOS 9.2 update also includes a list of bug fixes for the Camera, Contacts, Mail, Podcasts, Safari, iCloud, Find My iPhone, Health, Activity, Wallet, VoiceOver, Guided Access, and the Apple keyboard. While the bug fixes are a good news to users with problems from iOS 9.1 update, this does not mean that that there are no reports of problems with installing the update, as well with problems of lag and crashing.
That being said, the news that a lot of people are waiting for is whether or not iOS 9.2 has a jailbreak yet. The answer to that is no, and considering that iOS 9.1 also does not have a jailbreak, that should come as no surprise. If you want to do jailbreaking, it is not suggested that you proceed with the upgrade. Also, it has been reported that you can downgrade to iOS 9.1 for a limited time only.
