Many gadget lovers were disappointed when iPad Mini 5 and iPad Air 3 did not appear at Apple's March special event. However, many tech websites predict the new devices will release in the third quarter of the year, and here's the latest round-up of update about iPad Air 3 and iPad Mini 5 release date, specs, and rumors on the web.

Starting with iPad Air 3, many believed the next iPad Air will be launched in Apple's March Keynote, but what happened is the debut of a new iPad Pro in the same 9.7-in size as the iPad Air range. By looking at the release cycle of iPad, it suggests that the new version should have arrived in October 2015, yet it did not happen. Instead, Apple released iPad Mini 4 together with iPhone 6 in September 2015. There was no October launching last year.

The first-generation iPad was unveiled in October 2013 and the iPad Air 2 was announced on October 16

Chris Martin of PC Advisor predicts the iPad Air 3 will come later this year, probably to give updates on the regular iPad model. This will also give customers a cheaper option to the new iPad Pro and an upgrade option for iPad Air 2 users.

As for the specs of iPad Air 3, it could have a 9.7-in screen with a 2048x1536 resolution and a 264ppi pixel density.  The device could also have a powerful processor like A10 or A10x for more optimum performance.

Now, let's check the latest developments in Apple's iPad Mini 5. As we mentioned earlier, the current iPad mini 4 was released in September 2015. Some industry experts claim Apple might use that release window again for the next-generation iPad Mini. MacWorld reported that the tablet might come in autumn 2016.

As for the specs of the Mini 5, it could have an iOS 10 pre-installed right out of the box. In addition, it could sport thinner design than the previous iPad mini version. For Apple fans, they want the next iPad mini to have 3D touch pressure-sensitive screen, which is present in latest iPhone models.

Take note Apple has not yet confirmed or denied any of the details above, so let's take it with a proverbial pinch of salt.

As we race through 2016, expect an influx of release date rumors will surface online. We'll keep you updated about the latest news in iPad Air and iPad mini 5. Stay tuned for more information.
