Considering that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are ready to be put into consumer's hands, it was thought that Apple's 2nd big announcement would involve the 6th generation iPod Touch. Instead, we were shown the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 last October, with nothing mentioned of the iPod Touch 6G.
We at the Gospel Herald have already discussed why Apple is delaying the iPod Touch 6, even though there is anticipation for it. Considering that the fifth version of the iPod Touch came out in 2012 after a two-year wait, then it is possible to have a longer waiting period.
This brings to mind the question of whether an iPod Touch is needed in this current market of Apple products. After all, Apple wants to bring its users iPhones, iPads, and now Apple Watches. Is it possible that the iPod Touch has gone the way of the iPod Classic? That is, a technology that we craved at one point but just don't see a use for anymore because better devices offer us essentially the same thing?
Considering that most used the iPod Touch on a Wi-Fi only basis, this was a device that taught Apple users to forget any 3G or 4G services that a high-priced provider could supply. Instead, the iPod Touch was a "homey" device that could be used provided you had a wireless connection, which is a service most businesses provide for free.
Many tech sites are saying that the iPod Touch 6 is just in another delay mode, and it should be in consumers' hands by March 2015, with the reasons being technical issues. One of these issues is that the current iPod Touch is devoid of Apple Pay. Considering that Apple toted Apple Pay as this revolutionary way that their consumers can purchase something, it would simply not be good marketing to release a new iPod Touch that could not support that feature. In case you are not aware, Apple Pay uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to communicate with its compatible kiosks, which means that the new iPod Touch had better be NFC compatible. This NFC problem has already caused problems with Apple Pay at major retailers .
As far as other iPod Touch 6 specs are concerned, the rumor is that it will have a 4-inch Retina display, dual-core A5 processor, as well as an iSight Camera in the rear. Then there is also supposition that it will have more data storage as well as a radio application. Of course, the biggest issue is the price, but since its users probably aren't concerned with a carrier, that shouldn't be too much cause for alarm.
