iPod Touch 6th Generation Release Date: Insider Says Apple Will Launch New iPod This Fall

Technology giant Apple is currently developing the iPod Touch 6th Generation this fall and will sell starting at $250 and $300 per unit depending on the variant, an insider claimed.

According to Apple Insider, the iPod Touch 6th Generation will have an upgraded processor and camera compared to the iPod Touch 5th Generation that was released in 2012. The new iPod will come thinner and sport a colorful plastic back and come in various colors, including pink, yellow, orange, green blue, silver and space gray with a rumored special edition gold.

The next iPod Touch 6th Generation by an A5 processor and a lightening connector. The music device will be water-resistant and have Siri features. The iPod Touch 6th Generation will integrate Apple's mobile payment system, the Apple Pay. The upcoming iPod next generation will be sporting two display monitor variants - a 4.7-inch screen size version and a 5.5-inch display size. The two versions will feature Retina display for better resolution.

According to rumors, the iPod Touch 6th Generation will be running on iOS 9, the latest operating system in Apple that is currently on its final beta testing. It has also been speculated that the device will come in 32 GB and 64 GB versions.

Other rumors state that the device will be waterproofed and sport a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It is not clear if the iPod Touch 6th Gen will have a camera. Still, a number of gossip sites have suggested that it will sport an 8-megapixel camera.

Apple Insider added the iPod touch 6th Generation will have an upgrade camera. The current iPod Touch 5th Generation is sporting a 5-megapixel iSight camera capable of 1080p video with image stabilization. The front camera is capable of 720p resolution video for FaceTime.

There were speculations will not release a new generation iPod Touch after the iPod Touch 5th Generation received lukewarm reception from the public. The device sold only 2.6 million units last year, and contributed $410 million in earnings for the company.

The failure of Tim Cook to unveil the iPod touch 6th generation also contributed to rumors the iPod 5th generation will be the last of the series. Apple has not been focusing on the development of the iPod as it now focuses on the Apple Watch.
