It has been quite a while (like years) since Apple had given its users a new version of the iPod Touch.  That was the 5th generation of the iPod Touch, so when is the release date of the iPod Touch Sixth Generation.  As WWDC has come and gone, it has led to much speculation that the iPod Touch Sixth Generation is gone for good.  Of course, with the unveiling of the iPhone 6S, it might be time for a comeback.

There really hasn't been much word about the rumored iPod Touch 6th Generation, as much of the news about it is over a month old.  In fact, a recent report from the Master Herald supposed that the iPod Touch 6th Generation would be showing up at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that was held from June 8 to June 12, but this just didn't happen.  Considering all the rumors that surround the release of the iPhone 6S, it is more likely that the iPod Touch 6th Generation will show up at the same time as the newest version of the iPhone, which will probably be officially announced sometime in September.

It is possible that Apple is holding off the announcement of the iPod 6th Generation, and will announce it at the same time as the iPhone 6S, which is expected to be the new name of the 2015 version of the iPhone.  Since new versions of the iPhone and iPad are usually held on differing dates in the fall, perhaps that iPod Touch 6th Generation will show up when Apple unveils the iPad Pro Plus, assuming they do that version of the iPad.  So far, there is no word on an exact date for these announcements.

Then there is always the second option, according to the Latinos Post.  This option is practically becoming fact with the evidence, or lack of evidence, that the iPod Touch 6th Generation is not even under development at all.  Considering that Apple has already said good-by to the iPod Classic, as every smartphone has an MP3 player, the overabundance of smartphones in the market has most certainly shrank iPod Touch sales.  If Apple can't find a reason to have it, and it is only a matter of time before they make an announcement of not having it, which could easily be done as a "by the way" somewhere during the Fall unveiling of the new iPhone and iPad.

For those who are interested in purchasing another device that does apps, here are some rumors that the Latinos Post can give us about the iPod Touch Sixth Generation.

For example, the iPod Touch 6th Generation could come in different sizes.  You can obviously see that Apple would be taking a page from its own playbook as the iPhone 6 Plus has been a hit, and the market would not be any more flooded with another phablet.  In addition to the new size, there might be some new colors, such as gold and white.

Another expected upgrade would be the battery life, which would hopefully be better than the current 40 hours of music and 8 hours of video playback.  As for the processing power, the current iPod Touch 5th Generation has the dual-core A5 chip, so wouldn't it make sense to upgrade that to the A8 or A9 processor?

Considering that Apple Pay is supposed to be a big thing for the smartphone and smartwatch, why wouldn't it be on the iPod Touch?  Venture Capital Post has also noted that the new iPod Touch could have a Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Then there are other rumors about it being compatible with the Apple Watch, something that really hasn't been mentioned with all of Apple's hype of their new smartwatch.

Whatever the release date for the iPod Touch is, it is clear that Apple is going to have an interesting future if the Apple Watch takes off.  If not, we'll probably know by the fall whether the Apple Watch will be considered a failed experiment, and they could use a good cash cow like the iPod Touch 6th generation to boost their 2015 sales, not to mention some new version of the iPhone and iPad. It looks like we will know during the Holiday 2015 season whether the iPod Touch Sixth Generation is completely discontinued.
