While we would associate Android 7.0 Nougat with the newer batch of smartphones in the market, it is rather surprising to see a tiny handset that will arrive with this version of Android. The Jelly phone, as it is called, is a Kickstarter project that will feature Android 7.0 Nougat as the operating system of choice right out of the box, without having to wait for an update to arrive. Unihertz’s idea of a smartphone is enshrined in the Jelly phone, where it will certainly cater to those who want something basic and functional, and yet does not shirk from handling the latest versions of the Google mobile operating system. With a 2.45-inch display in tow, it has been specially designed to fit into just about any pocket without causing an unsightly bulge, while offering adequate functionality in the process. There are three colors to choose from: white, sky blue, and black, and hopefully this is not a scam on Kickstarter, but will actually be realized as it hits its funding goal.
In order not to judge a book by its cover, or in this case -- a phone by its size, the Jelly phone will be able to play nice with 4G LTE networks, while the 950 mAh battery ought to be adequate enough to power its 240 x 432 pixel resolution 2.45-inch display. Sure, you are not going to be able to enjoy high resolution images and videos on the Jelly, but that is not the point of this handset. It is basically an 2005 or 2006 smartphone with the latest version of Android, and will be a functional communications tool that you can bring with you. At the back lies an 8-megapixel shooter, while the front has a 2-megapixel camera.
The quad-core 1.1 GHz processor will run proceedings from underneath the hood, while the Jelly is capable of handling dual SIM cards at one time, allowing you to enjoy two different numbers on a single device. This makes it easier to compartmentalize your life using a single smartphone. Do take note that there are two different versions to choose from -- the vanilla model, or the Pro version. The normal Jelly smartphone will arrive with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, while the Pro version has double the amount of both. The main purpose of the Jelly smartphone is to double up as an alternative communications device that you would use when working out, or perhaps if you were to spend one night in the great outdoors. In fact, the company behind the Jelly smartphone would like to create an armband, ensuring that it will cater to fitness buffs during their workout sessions. Expect the Jelly smartphone to begin from $59 onward, and is tipped to ship later this summer -- if all goes well, that is. It ought to be compatible with majority of the 4G carriers in the US, such as AT&T and T-Mobile. Fingers crossed that it will be able to raise enough funds to cross the finish line!
