Julia Roberts Is Doing Her First-Ever TV Series

"Pretty Woman" A-list actress Julia Roberts has signed to star in her first TV series. Roberts will be portraying the character of Eleanor Flood of the TV adaptation of the novel "Today Will Be Different" and will serve as her first lead role in a TV series.

Maria Semple, the writer of the novel, will also be writing the script for the mini-series. Semple has worked and wrote for "Suddenly Susan" and "Arrested Development."

Roberts will also take part in producing the series through her company the Red Om Films. Annapurna Pictures of Megan Ellison will also co-produce the series which is the first TV endeavor to be handled by the company's television enterprise and will be held by former HBO executive Sue Naegle. Currently, there is no stated network that will handle "Today Will Be Different."

"I'm giddy that Eleanor Flood will be brought to life by Julia Roberts and am elated to collaborate with Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, and the team at Annapurna on this endeavor. This will be a fun ride!" Semple said in a statement, according to PopCrush.

The story revolves around the character Eleanor Flood who plans to have the best day in her life and address the things she has been avoiding. Her attempt to make the best out of her life is disturbed by the continuous surge of little conflicts brought upon by the people around her, such as her son, husband, and a colleague, according to Variety.

It is described as a "hilarious, heart-filled story" which tackles a quest for change, a visitation of the past, and connections for the people you love.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Today Will Be Different" is another addition to TV series which employ A-list movie stars. Meryl Streep is reportedly teaming up with Warner Bros. Television Drama "The Nix" which will be directed by creator J.J. Abrams. Annapurna is also conducting another TV series in partnership with Amazon and David Rusell which will employ Julianne Moore and Robert de Niro as stars.

This is not the first appearance of Roberts on the small screen. She starred in Ryan Murphy's HBO TV movie "The Normal Heart" where she played Dr. Emma Brookner and Jodie Foster's "Money Monster" where she played Director Patty Fenn. Roberts will also star in an adaptation of RJ Palacio's "Wonder" which will be produced by Lionsgate.
