By Mark Rollins

For those that are interested in getting a new laptop for the holidays or afterwards, there are many choices.  Some consumers might want to go with a 2-in-1 option that would allow their laptop to function as a tablet.  Both Lenovo and Microsoft have two options for 2-in-1 Windows laptop/tablets with the Yoga 900 and the Surface Book, respectively.  Below is a comparison of the Lenovo 900 vs. the Microsoft Surface Book, complete with their individual Specs, Features, and Prices.

Lenovo Yoga 900

This Windows 10 2-in-1 has a 13-inch screen, and is 0.59-inches thick and weighs 2.8 pounds.  It is designed to sit on the desk like a regular laptop, but thanks to its 360-degree watchband hinge, the screen can go all the way back, allowing it to be used as a tablet.  Battery life is good for up to 9 hours, depending on system settings and usage.

The Lenovo Yoga 900 comes with a 6th Generation Intel Core i7 Processor and up to 16 GB LP-DDR3L Memory, with 512 GB Samsung SSD storage.    Other features include some JBL speakers that can deliver rich stereo sound and premium Dolby Home Theater for an immersive audio experience.

In addition to Windows 10, there also a lot of Doit applications available such as SHAREit, allowing the user to share files quickly without network changes or even a WiFi connection.  The price of the Lenovo Yoga 900 starts at $1,049.99 and is available on the Lenovo Shop site

Microsoft Surface Book

Microsoft's Surface Book has a larger display than the Lenovo Yoga 900 with a 13.5-inch display.  It also has a detachable pen and keyboard but is a bit heavier at 3.48 pounds (1576 g).   It does have a sixth-generation Intel Core processor, up to 16 GB GDDR5 RAM and longer battery life at 12-hours.

Like the other versions Microsoft's Surface, the Surface Book has a removable keyboard, with a "Dynamic Fulcrum" hinge in both directions, but doesn't appear to bend all the way backwards.  The Surface Book will support the Surface Pen (which is included) as well as the Surface Pro Dock.   Microsoft claims that the Surface Book is twice as fast as a MacBook Pro.

The price of the Surface Book is considerably higher when compared to the Lenovo Yoga 900, and the difference is dependent on the model: $1499 for 128 GB/Core Intel i5 with 8 GB, $1699 for 256GB/Core Intel i5 with 8GB, $1899 for 256 GB/Core Intel i5 with 8 GB/dGPU, $2099 for 256 GB/Core Intel i7 with 8 GB/dGPU, and $2699 for 512 GB/Core Intel i7 with 16 GB/dGPU.  More information can be found on the Surface Book site, and it can be purchased online.
