Longmire Season 5 Release Date On Netflix; Popular Show Could Last 10 Seasons

Longmire Season 5
Longmire should be back for a Season 5. Netflix

The show Longmire was one of the most popular shows on A&E, but apparently, the network thought the show "never found its audience" and pulled the plug on it after three seasons.  Apparently, this audience found the show and rallied to get it back, resulting in a Season 4 coming to the Netflix subscription service.  Now fans of the show are demanding a Season 5, and Netflix is strangely quiet about it.  Here is what we know about the possible Renewal of Longmire Season 5 Release Date, and how the show could last a lot longer than just five seasons.

While fans anxiously await to see whether or not Longmire is going to have a Season 5, it would appear that perhaps Netflix isn't thinking of a renewal of one season, but many.  According to Renew Cancel TV, this series could run for Season 5 and beyond with possibly ten seasons.

It sounds like the show, which is based on the "Walt Longmire Mysteries" book series by Craig Johnson, has taken its source material and just ran with it, creating a show plan for a story that will last.  Executive producer John Coveny revealed his plans to Yahoo TV in saying:  "We threw a lot of knives in the air in Season 3, and we've caught a lot of them in Season 4.  When we pitched the series to Netflix, they talked about how long we want to keep the show going. Realistically, we have Seasons 8, 9 and 10 in our heads; it's a rich world, and we're just beginning to scratch the surface of it."

If these showrunners have the last three seasons of a 10-season show in their head, then clearly they know the direction of Season 5, 6, and 7.  At this point, one would think that they would have presented a written plan of this to Netflix, who should be impressed by this.  Most successful shows have an excellent story that can keep viewers hooked through multiple seasons, but the truth is, most networks only renew shows one season at a time.  Many shows have to write seasons as if this will be the last season, creating a short-lived storyline.

It is clear that Longmire has the storyline that can last many seasons, and it has the fanbase and numbers to show that people will watch it.  It makes one wonder why Netflix is so silent on renewing this program for at least a Season 5.  There is an enormous following for this show, and at least that niche audience will watch it.  Chances are, the audience will only increase after that happens.

Essentially, what is going on here is just a waiting game.  The safe bet is that Netflix is going to choose their winner with Longmire, and they will green-light a season 5.  Perhaps they want to give fans what they want and give the green light to even more seasons after 5.  Hopefully, the show is smart enough to keep viewer's attention, but that doesn't seem like a problem.
