The Los Angeles Rams currently have one of the worst records in the 2016 NFL season, which is why it came as a surprise after rumors of head coach Jeff Fisher's contract getting extended emerged. But, as confirmed by the coach, the Los Angeles franchise has agreed to extend his tenure with the team for two more years despite its current losing streak.

The Rams started the season with a promising record after winning three consecutive games following their Week 1 loss against the San Francisco 49ers. However, by Week 5, the team got into a slump which then spiraled into a disappointing 4-8 record.

Fans of the franchise have blamed the team's lack of direction and consistency on the filed on Fisher. Due to the way the team is currently performing, many of them assumed that this will be the coach's last year with Los Angeles.

However, on Monday, rumors about a contract extension for Fisher circulated, The Guardian reported. This came as a huge surprise to fans especially since the Rams just came from their eight loss at the hands of the New England Patriots.

At a recent press release, Fisher confirmed that he had signed a contract extension with the Rams for two years. Although he did not go into detail regarding the terms of the new agreement, he noted that the extension was offered to him even before the regular season started.

"You know, the discussion started at the end of the year, last year," Fisher said according to NBC Sports. "Then they moved into the offseason, so I agreed with the organization well before the season started."

"It's not my personal position to go ahead and release that stuff, so I was very appreciative with respect to Stan Kroenke, knowing what we were going through," he added.

As noted by Fisher, he will still be the coach of the Rams next season. He also promised fans of the franchise that he intends to do a better job next year.
"I've got some work to do here to finish up strong," he said. "You know, we have some personnel issues to deal with and get better. And we have some issues to deal with from an offensive side of the ball."
