A recent trailer for the Fantastic Four has revealed a surprise at the end: Deadpool. The antihero mutant from Marvel comics will make another big-screen appearance, and this is what we know about the Deadpool movie Release Date and Cast.
According to Entertainment Weekly, an extended trailer for the Fantastic Four, this premieres in theaters this Friday, aired on Monday during American Ninja Warrior. It was an extended one for a few minutes (rare for a commercial break), and there were a few seconds which had a guest appearance from Deadpool. The iconic Marvel character was sitting in a chair with a pipe, promising audiences "See Fan Four in theaters this Friday, and I'll throw in my Deadpool trailer for free".
For those who are not familiar with Deadpool, the mutant first appeared back in 1990 as a villain with an accelerated healing power similar to Wolverine. He was cast as a villain, but has since become an antihero in the Marvel Universe. This "merc with a mouth" has an extremely talkative and psychotic nature, and he has a tendency to break the fourth wall. In the comics, he would talk to the reader like he was talking to the audience during the Fantastic Four trailer. He will soon be given a movie to chat it up.
Deadpool is not due out until next year, but he will be played by Ryan Reynolds. The actor has played Deadpool before, during X-men Origins: Wolverine. Unfortunately, the first solo Wolverine movie did not do as well as planned, and Reynolds eventually took another iconic comic book role with Green Lantern, which also didn't do very well.
Most people credit the fans for the Deadpool movie, wanting to see this character done on screen well, and Ryan Reynolds really wanted to play this role with a better script. The Deadpool film is directed by Tim Miller, a newcomer working from a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The film promises to be an R-rated look at the antihero that is an attempt at trying to forget the Wade Wilson that was portrayed in X-men Origins: Wolverine. It should be noted that there is a great cast including Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlyse/Copycat, Gian Carano as Angel Dust, T.J. Miller as Weasel, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Andre Tricoteux as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, another X-man.
Considering that Deadpool is Marvel property, it is unknown what plans there are for him in the Cinematic Universe. This is different than the Cinematic Universe of The Avengers films, as those are owned by a different studio. The X-men franchise exists apart from this franchise, so you will not be seeing an X-men/Avengers crossover movie unless some serious legal work happens.
However, is it possible to see Deadpool team up with the X-men? The fact that Colossus is appearing in his film, and the character has appeared in several X-men films give fans something to possibly look forward to. Of course, X-men is pretty PG-13 territory, and a Deadpool film is really getting into R-rated medium.
The Deadpool movie will appear in theaters on February 12, 2016. In case you are not aware, that will be the same day that Zoolander 2 has its release date.
