CBS has recently given the go-ahead to renew 'The Mentalist' for Season 7, begging the question as to when the show will premiere.

As for now, CBS has not confirmed the premiere date for upcoming season of 'The Mentalist.' Still, there is a likelihood that the show is returning to its Sunday night schedule, though the exact time is in question. There is also the question of how many episodes the show will feature. Factors to consider is the 'The Mentalist' rating bubble, which became very apparent after the Red John story-arc ended in Season 6.

It is not clear what will be done to breathe new life into the long-running series. Consequently, the upcoming season of 'The Mentalist' may very well be the final run for the veteran CBS series. If that were true, CBS may reduce the number of 'Mentalist' episodes.

Due to these factors, a fall premiere date for 'The Mentalist' seems rather unlikely. CBS is already having trouble fitting in 20 renewed series within a limited seven-day weekly schedule. Recently, CBS has added Thursday night NFL football to its weekly lineup. Inevitably, displaced shows will find their way into the Sunday night time slot that 'The Mentalist' already occupied.

Given that 'The Mentalist' is already low on CBS' priority list, it is likely 'The Mentalist' will be boot from its original time slot. Ultimately, fans will have to wait for more word from CBS to get a better idea of 'The Mentalist' Season 7 premiere date.

In all fairness though, 'The Mentalist' is not the only show that has performed poorly on CBS, which recently axed shows that included Hostages, Intelligence, Bad Teacher and the Crazy Ones. It is a miracle the show is even coming back to CBS.

Season 6 of 'The Mentalist' ended with the death of Red John (Xander Berkeley), chief antagonist and foil to the show's protagonist, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker). Fans have been divided about whether the show should resurrect the leading bad-guy. Whatever the outcome, spoilers will emerge in the coming weeks as Season 7 productions is sure to kick off sometime in the foreseeable future.
