Olympic Swimmer Michael Phelps is now engaged to Nicole Johnson, who was once Miss California in 2010. So far, no official wedding date has been set, but the gold medal athlete does have quite a schedule ahead of him.
The Phelps and Johnson verified their engagement via social media posts on Twitter and Instagram. According to CNN, Phelps simply put a picture of he and Johnson cuddling in the snow, with a caption of "She said yes". Johnson posted a similar photo on her Instragram page, with a caption of "I'm going to be a Mrs." The photos look like they were taken at the same place and time by teammate Allison Schmitt, and the ring looks extremely big.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the Phelps and Johnson have been dating on and off for the past few years, and Phelps sister Hilary is quite pleased as she wrote on Facebook: "CONGRATULATIONS to these two lovebirds on their engagement! Couldn't be happier for my brother and thrilled to gain a sister, who I adore and love already!"
Phelps is most famous for his gold medal wins at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and won 8 gold medals for swimming. He is currently the most decorated athlete in Olympic history with 18 gold medals and 22 overall. At the 2012 London Olympics, he announced his retirement, saying that he did not want to swim past the age of 30 and had accomplished all of his goals.
However, in 2013, Phelps resumed training and competed again last year in April in Mesa. He then won three gold and two silver medals in Austrailia, at the Pan Pacific championships.
Michael Phelps is currently finishing a six-month suspension from USA Swimming due to a second arrest for drunken driving on September 30th. Phelps first arrest for drunken driving was in 2004. After the second arrest, Phelps pled guilty to the DUI charge in December and was placed on probation by a judge that warned: "If you haven't gotten the message by now, or forget the message, the only option is jail." Phelps underwent 45 days of impatient treatment in Arizona, and continued his therapy in Maryland and enrolled in Alcoholics Anonymous.
When the suspension ends on March 6th for his second drunken driving arrest, it is expected for Phelps to return to competition at Mesa, Arizona one month later in April. Unfortunately, Phelps is banned from the summer's world championships in Russia, the biggest meet heading into the 2016 Olympics. Phelps is planning on competing in the Rio Games.
It does appear that Phelps has his athletic schedule filled, so when is there going to be the wedding? So far, there doesn't appear to be a date set. Also absent is any comments from Taylor Lianne Chandler, an intersex blonde who has also been involved with Phelps, according to Daily Mail.
