Microsoft's Lumia is putting out a whole new array of smartphones, and they will be compatible with up-and-coming Windows 10. The issue is the release date for them, as the 640 and 640 XL should be out by now, and there is no real exact release date for the 940 and 940 XL.
The Lumia 640 and its bigger sister, the 640 XL, were first unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC). The 640 has a 5 inch screen while the 640 XL has a 5.7 inch screen. Both of these phones will begin with Windows 8.1,which means that you can upgrade them to Windows 10 soon. With these phones comes a year's subscription to Office 365, as well as 1 TB of OneDrive storage plus access to Office on a PC, Mac, or Tablet. Also included is 60 free minutes of Skype Unlimited worldwide per month.
Other features that both phones have include a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 8GB storage, microSIM slot, microSD card slot of up to 128 GB, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. The specs of the cameras are different as the 640 has an 8.0 Megapixel main camera (0.9 Megapixel front-facing camera) while the 640 XL has a 13 Megapixel camera (5.0 Megapixel front-facing camera).
According to PC Advisor, these phones are confirmed to be available by the end of April. However, this doesn't appear to be the case. On the AT&T page for the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL, it still says "coming soon". So far, there isn't really any word as to the delay.
As for Microsoft's Lumia 940 and the 940 XL, much of what we have heard is through leaks. Venture Capital Post reports that the Lumia 940 is known by its codename Talkman, and the 940 XL is known as Cityman. The Cityman will have a 5.7 inch QHD display, while the smaller Talkman will have a 5.2 inch display.
Both the Lumia 940 Talkman and the Lumia 940 XL Cityman can extend their processors thanks to the power of 64-bit computing. They will have a triple-LED flash with each of a different shade, granting the user the power of photos with natural colors. By the way, both the Cityman and Talkman will have the same features for their cameras (both front and rear) as well as the same RAM capacity and storage.
Ecumenical News reports that the 940 and 940 XL will have advanced features like 3D-Interaction, Iris Scanner, and pen support. The camera sizes are expected to be 24-25 Megapixel rear cameras and 5 Megapixel front-facing cameras. Unlike the 640 and 640 XL, these phones are expected to come pre loaded with Windows 10.
As best as we can tell, it looks like the 940 and 940 XL cameras should be expected to be released in the second half in the year or Q3 2015. As for the 640 and 640 XL, there really isn't any reason why there should be a delay, especially without any warning. These phones should probably arrive soon, and if you are interested, check your carrier to see when they are slated to arrive.
