If you can remember video gaming back in the late eighties, then you know all about one of the greatest franchises of all time with Mega Man. In spite of so many video game series still alive today, this very popular game series is no more, but it's creator, Keiji Inafune, has created a "spiritual successor" with Mighty No 9. This is what is known about Mighty No 9 with its release date, gameplay, trailer, and other news.
According to PlayStation Lifestyle, there is a new trailer that comes straight from Deep Silver that shows off some of the game's highlights. This trailer can be seen below, and is known as "Masterclass", and it definitely shows off some of the game's moves like dashes, combos, and power-ups after killing enemies.
The development of Mighty No 9 is a testament of fans of the Mega Man franchise, really. Mighty No 9 began as a Kickstarter campaign three years ago, and it achieved its target goal of $900,000 USD not more than two days later. The creator Infune really wanted to give Mega Man fans something that they would like since Mega Man Legends 3 was cancelled.
For that reason, it is pretty difficult to talk about Mighty No 9 without mentioning Mega Man at all, and the protagonist of Mighty No 9 bears a strong resemblance to Mega Man, probably by design. Mighty No 9 is essentially a 2D scrolling platformer, which isn't really seen much these days. The plot of Mighty No 9 involves an android named Beck, the ninth unit in a set of combat robots known as the Might Numbers. When a computer virus takes control of Beck's fellow androids as well as the machines around the world, it is up to Beck to go against the villain and his unstoppable army of rogue robots. Beck also has a has a partner named Call, because everything should be at the player's "Beck and Call".
Mighty No 9 is going to be available on June 21, 2016, and will be available on pretty much all platforms including Windows, OS X, Linux, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PS Vita, and Nintendo DS. You can find out more information on the Mighty No 9 site.
I think it can be safely assumed that Mighty No 9 will be a hit, and there is even plans for a live-action movie based on the material available for digital platforms, according to IGN. So, yes, the legend of Mega Man lives on, even without Mega Man.
