Mistresses has been quite a summer hit for ABC, and Season 2 ended with a lot of drama going on. Season 3 of the show is planning on starting soon, and the trailer promises: "Don't worry, your girls are back with a new season of scorching hot drama and smoking hot mamas". Mistresses Season 3 will be without Alyssa Milano's character Savi, and this is what else we know about this season's spoilers, cast, and air date.
Season 2 of Mistresses left off with Joss (Jess Macallan) giving in to her desire for her for her sister Savi's ex-husband Harry. Jess then goes off with Harry (Brett Tucker) to the beach to make out with him, and leaves Scott at the altar.
As we have said before, Alyssa Milano is planning on leaving the show, which means that her character, Savi, will be replaced. According to TVLine, Jennifer Esposito landed a series-regular role on Season 3, and will play the "uber-fabulous and larger-than-life" Calista Raines. Raines will step into the role of "friend, mentor, and surrogate sister" to Jes Macallan's Joss following the exit of the character's actual big sister Savi.
The reason for Milano leaving the series is because the show has decided to relocate. The show shot in Los Angeles, but Season 3 will be moved to Vancouver Canada for financial reasons. Milano, a mother of two babies under 4, did not want to move and decided that it was best to leave the show, according to the International Business Times.
One secret that has been kept under wraps is how Mistresses will address Savi's departure from the show. The executive producer reveals that Mistresses will bring back "a very special guest from Season 1, a surprise visitor who once again wreaks havoc in the lives of one of our Mistresses". It is possible that Savi could be threatened by this character and be forced to leave the show. Of course, the last time Savi was seen was when she was walking on the beach, unaware that her sister and ex-husband were linking romantically on the sands. It is possible that Savi could find out about the affair, and then leave the Mistresses out of pure spite alone.
The one thing that Jes Macallan has revealed is that there will not be a time-jump. She has stated "we really thought there was going to have to be a time jump, but they figured that out". She also added "Why skip away from [the drama of the Season 2 finale] and be like, here's our characters six months later? It'd feel like a disservice. Everybody had big news coming in."
The Season 3 will not have a time-jump, but it will reveal Karen Kim's (Yunjin Kim) mysterious diagnosis. She was HIV-negative, "but something else came up". So is she pregnant? There was also the matter of April (Rochelle Aytes) and her daughter (Corinne Massiah), who has learned the truth of her dear old and departed father.
Mistresses will return to ABC on Thursday for Season 3, June 18 at 9 PM EDT for a two-hour first episode premiere.
