Game developer NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Brothers have confirmed that the next DLC for the massively-successful fighting video game Mortal Kombat X will be released next year.

However, the joint announcement did not provide details about the content of the DLC but Ed Boon hinted that four new characters will be introduced in the Mortal Kombat X game.

A separate statement by NetherRealm Studios, meanwhile, has confirmed that another DLC is coming to 'Mortal Kombat X' that will include four new characters;

NetherRealm said, "Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed that NetherRealm Studios is developing new downloadable content (DLC) for Mortal Kombat X, the best-selling game of 2015 to-date according to US NPD.  The new content will include four new playable characters, skins and a new environment, all of which will be available in the first half of 2016.

"Mortal Kombat X is NetherRealm Studios' most recent installment in its legendary, critically acclaimed fighting game franchise that propels the iconic franchise into a new generation. The game combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy."

Boon, the head developer for Mortal Kombat X, recently posted on his official Twitter account provided hits about the new characters who will be included in the upcoming Kombat Pack 2. He writes, "Here is the official announcement of new downloadable content coming for Mortal Kombat X. pic.twitter.com/fMoXUSRvjf http://t.co/I1IFdZoVfU"

In a report, Design and Trend speculated that Baraka, Rain, and Sindel were amongst the three characters who will be joining the Mortal Kombat X DLC. The inclusion of the three seems plausible as they already have their moves but are not yet playable. The report also forwarded the names of Bo' Rai Cho, Fujin, Kabal and most interestingly, Spawn, as possible contenders.

The possible inclusion of Spawn came following reports that NetherRealm Studios received permission from Todd McFarlane of Image Comics to use Spawn in Mortal Kombat X DLC, according to VC Post.

Other reports indicated that Wolverine could also be joining Mortal Kombat X characters, as well as The Terminator.

Another report by Design and Trend added that "Warner Bros confirmed there is indeed additional DLC on the way for Mortal Kombat X. The addition in the Mortal Kombat X DLC includes new skins and at least one new stage. The bad news is that it doesn't look like the content will be released until sometime in early 2016.
