Much of the focus on Motorola's phones like the Moto G and Moto X is about when they will get Android 5.1, but another question is when will the Moto G and Moto X get 2015 editions? After all, the Moto G and Moto X have both had second generation models, so it only stands to reason that a third generation is on the way, and this is what we know about the new Moto G and Moto X release dates.
According to The Latino Post, the Moto G 2015 or third generation is going to have a 5 inch or 5.2 inch display. It will also have 8 GB of memory and rumored to come with a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 610 SoC supported by 2 GB of RAM and 4G LTE capability.
There has been a report on MotoG3 that the phone will have some changes with its depth and corners. This Moto G3 site is devoted to more unofficial news and rumors rather than being an official website for the Moto G series of phones. If their claims are true, then we should be seeing the Moto G, third generation or 2015 edition, in a few months. Considering that the Moto G2 (second generation of Moto G or Moto G 2014) was released in September of 2014, that makes a whole lot of sense.
As for the release date of the Moto X3 (aka Motorola Moto X 3rd generation or 2015 edition) the Latino Post expects a September release. They are also looking at a 16 Megapixel primary camera.
According to Phone Arena, there has been a leak of the third generation Motorola Moto X specs. From what it looks like, the 2015 Moto X will have a 5.2-inch screen (1440 x 2560 resolution) which is identical to that of the DROID Turbo. It looks like on the inside will have a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset with 4 GB of RAM. There will be two variants, one with 32 GB and the other with 64 GB. The rear camera will be a 16 Megapixel model, as we stated before, while the front-facing one will be at 5 Megapixels. You should expect the camera to have Android 5.1.1 installed.
According to Ubergizmo, Motorola's president, Rick Osterloh, was on Twitter to give away the Moto X 2015 release date. Osterloh was merely responding to a question from a customer, and he stated that Motorola is trying to stay on an annual cycle for all their products including the Moto X. In other words, since the Moto X was released in 2014 around August/September, this means that this year's Moto X will appear around that time as well for 2015.
Of course, this does leave a lot of room for Motorola to make some kind of executive decision and attempt to launch the Moto G and/or the Moto X earlier than expected. If that happens, then perhaps the 3rd Generation of Moto G and Moto X will enjoy more profits from the holiday season.
