Motorola seems to have a hit on its hands with the Moto X, enough so it spawned a sequel with the second generation 2014 Moto X released about eight months ago.  This has left fans and consumers wondering what can be next for the Motorola Moto X 3rd generation (2015 version), and when is the release date. Here is what we know about the Moto X 2015 specs, thanks to some rumors of leaks.

According to Phone Arena, there has been a leak of the third generation Motorola Moto X specs.  From what it looks like, the 2015 Moto X will have a 5.2-inch screen (1440 x 2560 resolution) which is identical to that of the DROID Turbo.  It looks like on the inside will have a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chipset with 4 GB of RAM.  There will be two variants, one with 32 GB and the other with 64 GB.  The rear camera will be a 16 Megapixel model while the front-facing one will be at 5 Megapixels.  You should expect the camera to have Android 5.1.1 installed.

Speaking of Android, the Moto X, the first and second generation, looks like they will have a new update for Android 5.1. The 2nd Gen Moto X is still not officially announced the update schedule, according to the Latino Post.  This goes for the 1st generation of the Moto X, but there has been reports that the new update has been made available for Brazilian users, which means that the United States isn't too far.  The reason for the delay for Android 5.0 has to do with the chipset from the phone, the Snapdragon S4 Pro.  We have previously reported that last month Motorola spokesman David Shuster confirmed the Lollipop update for the first generation of Moto X was cancelled, but it would be getting Android 5.1.

As for the release date for the third generation Moto X, it will probably be around September.  Considering that the Latino Post reports that it has been 8 months since Motorola unveiled the second generation Moto X, and there has been many price-slash offers is a sure sign that the newest version of the Moto X is on the way.

According to Ubergizmo, Motorola's president, Rick Osterloh, was on Twitter to give away the Moto X 2015 release date.  Osterloh was merely responding to a question from a customer, and he stated that Motorola is trying to stay on an annual cycle for all their products including the Moto X.  In other words, since the Moto X was released in 2014 around August/September, this means that this year's Moto X will appear around that time as well for 2015.

Of course, this does leave a lot of room for Motorola to make some kind of executive decision and attempt to launch the Moto X earlier than expected.  We have previously reported, all that is really known about this year's version of the Moto X is that it would have Snapdragon 810. The only reason why we know about this is because Motorola and Qualcomm have previously confirmed that a new flagship form Motorola is coming and will be powered by the new Snapdragon 810 SoC.  All signs seem to point that Snapdragon 810 will come to the Moto X, even though the leaked specs say that it will be an 808.

There will be more hints of what the Moto X third generation will be, and we'll keep you informed before the Moto X 3rd Generation expected August/September release date.
