After the official ‘Teen Wolf’ season 6 release date was confirmed, fans of the longtime-running MTV series got busy looking for details about the upcoming season, including the questionable return of series star Dylan O’ Brien after his past injury.
As pointed out by Teen Wolf News, viewers of the show have to wait a little longer as production for ‘Teen Wolf’ season 6 will be finished at a later date due to O’ Brien’s circumstances.
The 25-year-old actor sustained injuries while filming scenes for the film ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure.’ According to the report, filming had initially been set to continue in August, but the production team chose to resume their activities in October as O’ Brien has not yet attained full recovery.
According to executive producer Jeff Davis, the remaining ‘Teen Wolf’ season 6 episodes are yet to be filmed from October to January. Such delay can be attributed to O’ Brien’s commitment to other projects; aside from the ‘Maze Runner’ sequel, he has also bagged a role in the Vince Flynn spy novel adaptation ‘American Assassin.’
Meanwhile, the first part of ‘Teen Wolf’ season 6 is expected to not have O’Brien’s character, Stiles, in its episodes. According to Davis, a new group of villains who call themselves the Ghost Riders will have a bad involvement with Stiles by abducting him, bringing on adverse effects on his existence.
“We’ve had seasons where there're just bodies dropping everywhere, and we wanted to do something frightening but different,” Davis explained. “What’s scarier than death? Being forgotten. Being completely erased.”
The showrunner also assured fans that the actor will certainly return for the sixth season as Stiles’ role is of great importance.
“Stiles is a big part of the season because a lot of this season’s mystery revolves around him,” Davis shared. “We’re going to see just what Stiles’ friendship means to Scott, Lydia, and Malia. We’re going to see why exactly he’s Scott’s best friend, what it means that he’s Malia’s human anchor, and what his will-they-or-won’t-they relationship is with Lydia.”
While the showrunner did not drop too many spoilers about Stiles’ storyline on the final season of ‘Teen Wolf,’ series star Tyler Posey previously opened up about his character Scott and his friendship with O’ Brien’s, calling the upcoming installment a “reminiscent season.”
“Everybody has a lot of reflecting to do. It’s beautiful. It’s so cool what we do. You fall in love with Stiles every episode,” Posey shared.
Also, the 24-year-old actor explained how Scott’s story will be a better one in the sixth season when he has rebuilt his life and has moved forward onto better decisions.
“Everything that happened in season 5 made him stronger so when season 6 comes up, he’s got a good head on his shoulders, nothing bad has happened in Beacon Hills lately, so he’s feeling confident about that,” Posey said, adding: “He’s in a pretty good place.”
The ‘Teen Wolf" season 6 premiere date is set on Nov. 15 on MTV.
