The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series world Bojangles Southern 500 is returning to its original schedule on Labor Day Weekend date it held from 1950 to 2003 at the Darlington Raceway. In honor of the race, many NASCAR teams are putting throwback themes on their cars this weekend to commemorate and celebrate the "old" NASCAR.

According to Ledge Gazette, drivers will be wearing matching, vintage-looking firesuits to celebrate the return to the old Labor Day Weekend schedule.

NBC will also broadcasts old footages featuring retro highlights of NASCAR to commemorate the rich tradition of the racing circuit, the report added.

According to the report, ISC, which owns Darlington, decided to move the Bojangles Southern 500 to its original Labor Day Weekend schedule to recapture the allure that made Darlington special. However, Darlington last won the Southern 500 in 2003.

The Darlington Speedway enjoys the reputation as "too tough to tame" amongst NASCAR driver. "Its tough when you're needing to steal a win to get in," said Ricky Stenhouse Jr., one of the three Roush Fenway Racing drivers outside the top 16.

Petty added, "I remember when they moved it, and honestly, I was ticked, and that's putting that politely." Dad reminded us to crank the vehicle every once in a while for a run a minutes so its battery wouldn't go dead. It was the most fun I have ever had in a race auto," he said. "The way we've been running lately and the way this package drove at Kentucky, I mean to me, Darlington is going to be like Christmas in September. I can't say we have performed well enough to be real confident coming in here that we are going to be one of the cars to beat. We're going to keep digging and hopefully put ourselves in position to win a race or two and try to gain some points."

In nine starts, Petty has averaged a 6.9 finish with a win in 2010.

Goodyear, which provides tires to race cars participating in NASCAR, is also throwing some throwback tires, reported Forex Report Daily. "Since our earliest days in NASCAR, Goodyear has used the sport as a proving grounds for tire development and innovation", said Stu Grant,

Earlier in the summer, Earnhardt had run Elliott off the track to win The Winston in Charlotte and the two drivers were entrenched in a hateful feud.
