NBA Free Agency Rumors: Kevin Durant’s Chances of Signing With the Warriors are Looking Good

There is a very strong possibility that the 2016-2017 NBA season will open with Kevin Durant on the roster of the Golden State Warriors. Apparently, the 2016 NBA championship contender is one of the top teams that the athlete is seriously considering signing with.

According to various league sources such as Tim Kawakami and Alex Kennedy, Durant is almost ready to announce which team he will join for the next NBA season. Although there is still a chance that he might return to Oklahoma City to continue playing for the Thunder, there is also a strong possibility that he will go home with the Warriors.

"Hearing Kevin Durant is strongly considering Warriors," Kennedy tweeted. "He meets Thunder tonight, then he's likely to announce decision on @PlayersTribune."

But aside from the speculations, one interesting aspect that could sway Durant's decision is his recent meeting with NBA legend Jerry West, who made seven championship appearances during his time as a player for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1960 to 1974.

According to ESPN, it seems the meeting between West and Durant, which was done over the phone, went fairly well with the former highlighting the points as to why the latter should join Golden State.

West, who is currently an executive board member of the Warriors, reportedly told Durant that if he signs with the GS franchise, he will certainly not have a hard time breaking his career high average of 27.4 points per game.

Of course, being surrounded by the Warriors' powerhouse consisting of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will certainly open up opportunities for Durant to put more points in the basket. In addition, with these three running up and down the court, Durant will not have the difficulty of carrying the entire team just to win a game.

Aside from these, the Warriors will certainly be a good home for Durant especially now that he's almost 28 years old. The team came very close in taking home a back-to-back championship title last season. It will certainly try to replicate this feat next year but with a more experienced roster and a stronger team, there's a good chance that the Warriors will be able to win the finals series.
