Isaiah Canaan, the former shooting guard for the Philadelphia 76ers has officially joined the Chicago Bulls. The move by the team to get Canaan shows that the Bulls are looking to build a well-rounded roster by getting an effective outside shooter.

Canaan made his debut in the NBA in 2013 after getting drafted by the Houston Rockets. In 2015, he was traded to the 76ers along with a 2015 second-round draft pick in exchange for K.J. McDaniels.

During his time with the Philadelphia franchise, Canaan averaged 11 points per game with 1.8 assist. However, earlier this month, he became a free agent after the 76ers decided not to extend his contract with the team. Seeing the opportunity, the Bulls immediately approached Canaan and offered him a two-year deal worth $2.2 million, according to CSN Philly.

After the deal was completed, Canaan thanked his former team through an Instagram post.

"Would like to thank the Philadelphia 76ers for blessing me with the opportunity to be a part of this organization," he wrote. "Truly a blue collar city that taught me that there's more meaning to the game of basketball when you put that jersey on! I won't forget my experience here!"

As for the Bulls, team noted that Canaan will be a valuable asset to their lineup.

"We are excited to add Isaiah to our group," Gar Forman, the general manager of the Bulls said in a statement after the deal was finalized. "We feel his ability to knock down perimeter shots will be an asset to our team."

As noted by the Chicago Sun Times, Canaan will certainly be a valuable asset to the Bulls especially given their current roster. A couple of weeks ago, the team was able to secure Dwayne Wade and Rajon Rondo. Although these two are shooters, they'll most likely help the team's backcourt plays. That's because both are long-range shooters, averaging 28 to 29 percent.

Through the arrival of Canaan, the team will be able to improve its overall outside shooting. Last season, he threw a total of 485 three-point shots and landed 176 of them, which puts his percentage at 36. But aside from his shooting abilities, Canaan also has the skills to take on the guard position off the bench.
