NBA Rumors: Boston Celtics Close to Finalizing Deal With Blake Griffin?

New rumors suggest that the Boston Clippers may be cooking up a deal to get Blake Griffin from the Los Angeles Warriors. According to reports, this potential trade might involve the Sacramento Kings as well.

For some time now, the Celtics have been the center of most trade rumors. Usually, these are the team trying to get Russell Westbrook after his friend and former teammate Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder to be part of the Golden State Warriors.

However, if a trade involving Westbrook doesn't materialize, then the team could go for a different target. In this case, that new target is Griffin of the Clippers. According to Sporting News, to get Griffin, the Celtics might have to initiate a three-team deal. As noted by the site, this could involve the Kings sending Rudy Gay to the Clippers and the Celtics giving up a couple of its draft picks.

But, as the Clips Nation pointed out, readers shouldn't give in too much to these reports since they're just rumors. More importantly, it has not yet been confirmed if the Clippers are interested in entertaining discussions about trading away Griffin.

Also, another factor that discredits the truthfulness behind these rumors is the involvement of the Kings and Gay. It's highly unlikely that the Clippers would agree to trade away Griffin in exchange for Gay.

For one, Gay is older than Griffin, which means that the Clippers would probably not keep him for a long time if they do decide to get him.

Also, based on performance and stats alone, one can easily see that Griffin and Gay are not on the same level. Last season, Griffin averaged 21.4 points per page with 8.4 rebounds. Gay, on the other hand, only averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds during his latest season with Sacramento.

Based on these figures, it seems the Clippers would be getting the worst end of a deal if they trade Griffin for Gay.

Lastly, even though the Celtics have already expressed interest in getting Griffin, this doesn't automatically mean that the team will engage in trade talks just to get him.
