NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant Planning To Leave Golden State Warriors for Boston Celtics Next Summer

Probably one of the most surprising highlight of the recent NBA offseason was Kevin Durant's decision to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the Golden Warriors. But, it seems that no matter what happens to Durant and the Warriors this year, he could leave the team and join the Boston Celtics in 2017.

Durant's decision to join the Golden State franchise was initially met with criticism from fans and members of the league. For them, he signed with the Warriors in order to find an easy path to the finals.

As the months went by, the criticisms faded and Durant was able to make his peace with his bashers. Also, the NBA community was able to accept the fact that the Warriors are now a super team with him on their roster.

However, Metro speculated that no matter what happens this season, Durant could eventually end up playing for another team by next year.

For one, given the way the Warriors are structured in terms of its powerful roster, there's a very big chance that Durant will get an NBA championship ring this season. But, once he accomplishes this achievement, he might realize that his critics were right, that he actually took the easy way to win the title.

This notion could inspire Durant to look for a new challenge by joining a considerably weaker team.

Another possible scenario is that once the regular season starts, Durant will have a hard time adapting to the plays of the Warriors' Big 3, namely Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. He'll eventually feel unhappy with his current situation, which will then drive him out of Golden State.

Either way, Durant could resort to using his player option in his two-year contract with the Warriors. By doing so, he will become a free agent next offseason. If this happens, he will most likely sign with the Celtics because aside from the Warriors, Boston was another franchise that he was considering joining earlier this year.

The Celtics, of course, would be more than happy to sign him, as long as they have the resources to keep him in their roster.
