LeBron James took the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals, only to be usurped by the Golden State Warriors at the championships. Sure, they may have got in second place, and you can imagine that LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers want to keep this streak going, and several things that they are looking to do to make certain the team gets in first place. The possibilities are getting back Matthew Dellavedova, as well as Tristan Thompson. This is what is currently going on with NBA Trade Rumors on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
One player that is in the spotlight is Matthew Dellavedova, who was really the man to watch after Kyrie Irving was injured in the playoffs. Dellavedova is a restricted free agent in need of a new contract, and you better believe that he is using his position for leverage, according to Sports World Report. He's apparently looking for a multi-year deal for $4 million per season. This is causing the Cavaliers to decide quickly if they want the player back.
Sports Illustrated is reporting that Cleveland is in a stalemate when it comes to negotiations for Dellavedova, as the problem is that he is looking for that aforementioned 4 million, and if Cleveland signed off on that, then it would equal the salary/taxes of a max player. Bobby Marks states in a recent tweet that Luxury Taxes not factoring BH is right around $41. With Dellavedova, it would be about $14 Million in taxes and $4 salary, which would cost the team $18 Million.
There is also a rumor that the Cavaliers are looking at Pablo Prigioni, who was released from the Denver Nuggest following the trade of Ty Lawson. Prigioni certainly would be cheaper than Dellevadova, but it is, at best, a "short-term rental".
The Inquisitr reports that the Cleveland Cavaliers want to make some kind of a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, as the Cavs are still trying to improve their roster for the 2016 season. Cleveland apparently wants to deal center Brendan Haywood to the Blazers on a trade that will benefit both teams.
The Cavaliers currently owe Haywood about 10.5 million for the 2015-16 season, but this is a non-guaranteed contract. It is possible that the Trail Blazers could take on Haywood and not need to send back any players.
Bleacher Report says that the Cavaliers saw several of their key players opt out of their contracts early in the offseason. With the Cavs able to strike deals with both Kevin Love and LeBron James, other starters still remain on the open market. The big question is the status of Tristan Thompson, who is still in contract talks.
Cleveland reportedly also has its sights on an international center Sasha Kaun, who has spent six seasons playing for CSKA Moscow. Cleveland doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a decision on the Russian center, but the 7-foot player makes $2.9 to play for CSKA Moscow but would be willing to take less pay for playing for Cleveland.
Finally, a recent report at Cleveland.com reported that one of the Cav's free agents, James Jones, is planning on returning to Cleveland for sure. This 12-year pro will qualify for a veteran's minimum of $1.5 million.
