NCIS Season 13 opened with the return of Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) following a tragic shooting incident in Afghanistan, which saw the fearless leader of the investigative team crumble in the hands of a teenage boy whom he trusted and swore to protect. In his absence, the NCIS team looked to Anthony "Tony" DiNozzio (Michael Weatherly) to lead the group and update the regarding the status of Gibbs' health. Unsurprisingly, Gibbs survived the life threatening incident but not without costing him quite a number of issues.

As he comes back in the NCIS office, Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen), Eleanor Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Donald "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum) took notice of apparent changes not only in the physical appearance of Gibbs but also, and more importantly, his emotional wellbeing. As the NCIS squad attempts to unravel the mystery of the changes in Gibbs' personality and work ethic, the formidable boss and DiNozzio will be seen throughout NCIS Season 13 to be engaged in various conflicting situations.

The third episode of NCIS Season 13, titled Incognito, saw McGee and Bishop go undercover as a married couple to determine the identity of two suspects whom they believe to be behind a murder currently under investigation of the NCIS team. It could be recalled that the same assignment had been given to Ziva David and DiNozzio in NCIS Season 3, where the two played the role of a married couple working as assassins. Fans and followers of the NCIS series would know that such episode further bolstered the belief of the viewers that DiNozzio and Ziva would make a great couple. However, the departure of Ziva from NCIS appeared to have killed any hope of such pairing. As for McGee and Bishop, a number of viewers actually root for their pairing. Following the earlier pairing of McGee with Abby, the NCIS tech guru had been scoring zero in the romance department.

However, it looks like McGee might have his hands full in NCIS Season 13. During their undercover assignment, McGee and Bishop had the chance to open up to each other - with Wickersham's character revealing that she and her husband Jake Malloy (Jamie Bamber) are having marital concerns. The issue becomes even more apparent when McGee unwittingly told Bishop's hubby about the surprise she had been planning for their anniversary. While that could have been dealt with easily, the marital issues plaguing Bishop's personal became even cleared when her husband backed out of the anniversary plans.

As for McGee, earlier reports revealed that girlfriend Delilah (Margo Harshman) might become a regular fixture in NCIS Season 13. In fact, some fans pointed out that Delilah might be moving in with McGee this season. With these in mind, it remains to be seen if McGee's relationship with Bishop will have the chance to evolve into something romantic as with the case between DiNozzio and Ziva, or Delilah's presence in his life will delete all the possibilities of a work romance.
