"NCIS" Season 3 is going to introduce some groundbreaking changes. New cast members are going to be introduced, with series veteran Michael Weatherly leaving, much to the shock of the fans.

Weatherly, who plays Senior Field Agent Anthony Dinozzo, is set to depart the show. Shocks cannot believe they will not be able to hear him make his snarky comments anymore. With him leaving, show producers are entertaining the idea of putting in new faces.

According to TV line, the people behind the hit drama wants two new characters to join the rest of the investigative professionals. They released information on the first character to be added: Tess. Tess will be one of the good guys. She is described as a three-time divorcee just in her late 30s. Despite her quite unfortunate personal life, her professional life speaks volumes of what she can do. She is a veteran FBI Special Agent from a counter-terrorism unit in New York City. It is anticipated that she will be a mixture of both toughness and sweetness, and with this style, she will be of great help to the team. She is further given the descriptions of being "quick-witted, sarcastic, shrewd" and "two parts bulldog, one part sweet kitten." It remains to be seen who the second character will be or what characteristics he or she is set to have, based on the show runners.

The introduction of the two characters plus the leaving of Weatherly is big changes. Whether or not there will be more remains to be discovered. Sean Murray, who plays Special Agent Timothy McGee however, reassures the show's fans that the changes will not concern him. He has no plans of going anywhere.

Speaking with News.com.au, playing the dynamic role is still exciting him for him, so there is no reason to depart. "It has been a wonderful ride so far," Murray said. "Timothy McGee was unlike any character I had ever played before, but I had a very clear idea of who he was. What has kept it interesting for me is that there has been a progression in all the characters on the show over the years, and McGee more than anyone."

With the news of Weatherly's departure confirmed, fans wonder how the writers or executives plan to write him off for the show. With rumors that Jeanne Benoit, played by Scottie Thompson, might return before the leaving of Weatherly, fans speculate that Benoit will play an important role in DiNozzo's permanent departure. There is no news yet however of when the episodes starring Thompson might air. Apart from Benoit, Ziva David, played by Cote de Pablo, may also return, several media sites reported.
