Netflix’s love story with Marvel’s zany collection of superheroes continue, and this time around we have dips on the latest news -- release dates included for some of their more notable characters, with new and old series in subsequent seasons in tow.
First up would be The Punisher which as confirmed its 2017 release date, who first appeared as the vigilante Frank Castle aka The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2. He will get his very own Netflix series next year, as filming is ongoing in New York City at the moment. From what we know of The Punisher, Daniel Webber will play the young veteran known as Lewis Walcott, while Jason R. Moore steps into the role of Frank Castle’s friend, Curtis Hoyle. Paul Schulze would star as Rawlins, and Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife, will be played by Jaime Ray Newman -- and this character has a very complicated life due to her marriage.
Not only that, Marvel Television did announce earlier this month that Deborah Ann Woll who stars in the Daredevil series will co-star with Jon Bernthal, the main protagonist in The Punisher. With both the Punisher and Karen Page bonding on Daredevil season 2, the series’ debut next year ought to make for some interesting viewing. Iron Fist will be arriving in March 2017, so The Punisher should be set for a Fall debut, which ought to be within the same time frame as that of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage’s respective debuts.
March 17, 2017 will mark when Iron Fist premiers on Netflix. Actor Finn Jones, whose claim to fame is in The Game of Thrones, will take on the role of Danny Rand. Rand picked up his supernatural martial arts powers on the continent of Asia, and as he makes his way back to the Big Apple, you can be sure that the fight against evil becomes all the more interesting. There will be a series known as The Defenders which is tipped to be released some time next year as well, where it will be a team up of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and of course, Iron Fist.
How about Jessica Jones Season 2? With 13 female directors helming the next season, you can be sure that this will be an estrogen-driven series, but a whole lot of waiting is in store since Season 2 will only arrive after the first seasons of Iron Fist and The Defenders hit Netflix. In other words, Jessica Jones Season 2 would probably see a 2018 release. Thankfully, she will still return to screen in 2017 as part of The Defenders as mentioned earlier.
The third season of Daredevil should only happen in 2018, and again, it looks like the focus for 2017 would be The Defenders and Iron Fist. As for Luke Cage Season 2, Netflix has remained mum on both the confirmation and air date -- so there is still plenty of time left over to draw your very own conclusions. One thing is undeniable though: there will not be a dull moment on Netflix in the coming years with plenty of quality oozing through its channels!
