Amazon has a brand new Echo for the masses, and this time around it is known as the Echo Look. What gives with the name? Well, it will come with an integrated camera that will certainly be useful in helping you snap some stylish selfies while you are up and about in the house. It can be said to be a matter of time, since just about everything works better with a camera included. Take the humble mobile phone for example -- what is the point of having a color screen when there is no camera thrown into the mix? The Amazon Echo Look takes such a route, where it now not only hears all, it sees all.
The Echo Look can be said to be a standalone selfie machine of sorts, allowing its users to snap full length photos as well as record videos of themselves, specially for checking out their fashion choices when they wake up in the morning. In fact, there will be new voice commands to master, as the Echo Look will work with phrases such as “Alexa, take a picture” and “Alexa, take a video”. The video command would require users to spin around in order to capture a 360-degree video of what you are wearing for that particular day, and it will all be done in a hands-free manner. If you prefer to shoot videos with a selfie stick, then it can also be viewed in real time.
This is certainly an interesting, and some might say, pivotal addition to Amazon’s hugely successful Echo series of devices. While there is no presence of an integrated display at the moment, we believe it is only a matter of time before a screen is integrated into the device some time down the near future. Right now, however, users will be able to check out all of the on-screen action right on their respective smartphones. The Amazon Echo Look will also be compatible with Amazon’s very own Style Check app, where it relies on machine learning to perform a comparison of various outfit choices, before putting out an overall style rating.
In other words, you will soon be able to let Artificial Intelligence (AI) pick out what you are going to wear for that particular morning. Now that is certainly interesting, don’t you think so? Not only that, the app is capable of recommending styles that it thinks would suit the user better. No surprises for guessing just where that particular user is going to purchase its fashion recommendations -- from Amazon.com, of course. A rather effective method of translating such ‘fashion advice’ into sales.
Not all homes will fit the Amazon Echo Look nicely, since it is oblong in form factor, while sporting a camera, microphone and LED array all at the bottom. The camera comes with a depth sensor which will provide the bokeh effect for a more professional shot. It comes with the standard base of Alexa functions, and will feature a $200 price tag attached to it.
