Whenever Android upgrades to a new version, the next thing to come is a new version of the Google Nexus phone. It is possible that with the release of Android M will come a very soon, if not immediate, release of the new Nexus phone. It isn't known what the new number will be, but most suspect that it will be a 2015 edition Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7. According to Know Your Mobile, Google's iteration of its 2015 will be either built by LG or Huawei, and there will be two new Nexus handsets for 2015 (which is a first for the Nexus series). Huawei is apparently building the larger of the two devices with a Snapdragon 810 CPU and 5.7 inch display for a launch in late Q3 2015. A leak from PC Advisor shows that the Huawei device has a metal body, Type C USB, as well front facing speakers and a fingerprint scanner on the back.
As for the device form LG, that will be the smaller of the two devices, which is said to be a 5.2 inch display with Snapdragon 808. Other rumors are that it will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 processor, up to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, USB Type-C with Quickcharge 2.0, up to 64 GB of storage, a 3180 mAh battery, a MediaTek connectivity chipset, front-facing speakers, and a rear power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner. As for the cameras, they will be 13 Megapixels on the back and 4 Megapixels on the back.
It sounds like it will be an update to the Nexus 5, but the names of both of these phones has yet to be formally unveiled. All signs point to a 2015 version of the Nexus 5, as it was immensely popular and it has a low price that consumers like.
In addition to Android M, there will be Android Pay, which is the Google version of Apple Pay. This will be a mobile payment system that will be similar to Google Wallet, a system that was also tried on the Nexus series. Considering that a lot of businesses are being set up for mobile payments lately, Android Pay could stand to make quite a financial killing in the 2015/2016 shopping season.
In related news, a report from Gotta Be Mobile has stated that Google is rolling out a brand new version of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to Nexus devices which include the Nexus 7. Those who have the Nexus 7 from 2012 will unfortunately not be able to upload it. However, those in possession of the Nexus 7 from 2013, both Wi-Fi and LTE versions will be able to get it. Those of you who want the 5.1.1 update should also be pleased that the update patches up the vulnerability to the exploit known as Stagefright. It should be known that there have been reported problems with version 5.1.1 like lapses in Wi-Fi, battery life, and Bluetooth, so 5.1.1 to the Nexus 7 isn't exactly a cure-all.
