MacBook Air Retina, MacBook Pro Release Date 2014: Will Apple Launch New Macbook on October 16 Event?

Next week's Apple event is stirring up excitement not only over the potential iPod and iPad news, but also for what's in store with the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air Retina.

The October 16th event is already said to include a release date for the newest operating system, OS X Yosemite, and many Apple experts believe that the unveiling of the two newest MacBooks will coincide.

OS X Yosemite was first announced in June of this year, and it will be the first OS X that can be downloaded and installed for free. This OS features a more streamlined and user-friendly user interface, improved data sources for search tools, new Tab View, and more.

The MacBook Air 2014 is the lightest laptop from Apple to date, boasting an 11.6-inch display and weighing only 1.08 kilograms (a little less than 2.5 lbs). Quanta Computer has already reported production on the MacBook Air in July, and Intel has issued a press release heralding the arrival of its new Core M chip that is believed to be in the MacBook Air.

The MacBook Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 13- or 15-inch display, a slimmer profile, and a surprisingly cheaper price for the high-end 15-inch version. It's also said to come with touch screen capabilities and a longer battery life.

Both laptops will be available with Apple's new Retina HD Display that was first seen last month on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The updated Retina technology allows more pixels per inch than previous models, as well as a crisper user interface to accomodate proper viewing distance.

But the question is, will these two new MacBooks launch during the October 16th event, or simply be announced to launch shorty thereafter? Apple released Retina versions of the MacBook Pro in July, making us think that the next version may still release in time for the holiday season, but not as soon as next week's event.
