Pokémon Sun and Moon Release Date: New Pokémon Games Debut At Nintendo Direct

Pokemon news
Pokemon Sun and Moon will be released this year

The Pokémon series is one of the most popular games in the world, so it is not surprising that fans are clamoring for its next installment. But now, The long wait is over as two new Pokémon games are underway. IGN reported that Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will debut at Pokémon Nintendo Direct.

Now, here's the latest update on Pokémon Moon and Sun release date, rumors and features.

Reports about the two new Pokémon games started when Nerdleaks discovered that Nintendo has registered two trademarks.  The new trademarks are posted on the European Union trademark database, and the patents are also accompanied by logos above.

Interestingly, Nintendo announced it would hold a five-minute long Pokemon Direct on Friday, February 26, at 7 am PT. Therefore, some fans believe the Sun and Moon will be officially announced in the event.

In the past, the Japanese video game company revealed the Pokémon X and Y in the similar Direct event. It is also rumored that Sun and Moon will land on the Nintendo 3DS, just like the Pokémon X/Y.

For Paul Tassi of Forbes, he expects new game announcement, given the short duration of the Nintendo Direct. "Because what else are they going to do? Show new trailers for Pokémon Tournament or Pokémon Go?" Tassi wrote. Moreover, a game announcement is the most plausible reason for the Direct event, and Sun and Moon may very well be it.

A couple of weeks ago, a new Pokemon character was revealed. The latest mythical Pokemon is called Magearna. It has a metallic  body and was created by scientists 500 years ago.  The Pokemon is bipedal and classified as "man-made."

Together with Volcanion, Magearna will star in the 19th film of the Pokémon franchise. The film is titled "The Pokémon the Movie XY & Z: Volcanion to Karakuri no Magearna," which has an English translation "Pokémon the Movie: X Y & Z - Volcanion and the Exquisite Mechanical Magearna."

The plot of the upcoming Pokémon film is about Volcanion and Ash's adventure in a city of gears and cogs, where Magearna has been kept by an evil minister. Fans should expect classic Pokemon battles and exciting quest in the new movie.
