The New York Jets have been plagued with injuries since the beginning of the NFL season. As the football squad move forward, one of the most problematic areas for the New York Jets is the lack of a healthy quarterback to lead the NFL team this season. It could be recalled that primary quarterback Geno Smith had been battling injuries since the start of the games.

As for backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, it looks like the New York Jets secondary quarterback also incurred injuries. Hence, the New York Jets are left with rookie Bryce Petty - an option who is pegged by the majority of sports analysts as someone nowhere near prepared to take on the position.

Given the current predicament of the New York Jets, reports are surfacing regarding the plan of the NFL team to look for a quarterback elsewhere. One of the names who appear to have gained the attention of the Geno Smith squad is NFL veteran Matt Flynn. As the veteran quarterback is already a part of the New York Jets roster, it comes as no surprise that Matt Flynn is considered as a stronger option than rookie Bryce Petty.

"The Jets (4-3) have reached a crossroads in their season," noted Rich Cimini of ESPN. The sports analyst went on to point out, "They've dropped two straight and their quarterback situation is a multiple-choice question. It's so wide open that Bowles didn't rule out the possibility of the yet-to-be-acquired quarterback starting this week, although that seems remote."

Matt Flynn is a free agent at the moment. Prior to joining the practice squad of the New York Jets, the quarterback had been part of the New England Patriots roster. The NFL veteran was added to the New England Patriots when the NFL team feared the suspension of Tom Brady. Matt Flynn was deemed as a potential sub for second-year quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. However, the return of Tom Brady in the New England Patriots eventually made Matt Flynn expendable. Hence, he was later on let go by the NFL team.

At the moment though, the New York Jets have yet to officially announce the NFL team's decision to either stick with the recovering Geno Smith and rookie Bryce Petty, or search for a veteran quarterback in the free agent market. According to Todd Bowles, it is too early to tell if Ryan Fitzpatrick is also capable of staging a return in time for the Jacksonville Jaguars match on Sunday (November 8).
