On Monday, Blaine Gabbert proved that the San Francisco 49ers did not make a mistake in naming him as the starting quarterback after leading the team to a 28-0 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Given Gabbert's impressive performance, it seems the 49ers are now ready to completely part ways with Colin Kaepernick.

During Monday night's game, the 49ers' offensive line hammered the Rams by gaining 14-0 lead before the halftime mark. This carried on until the third quarter when both teams remained scoreless. During the fourth quarter, the San Francisco team continued its dominance against Los Angeles until the game ended without a single score for the Rams.

The 49ers' defensive line, too, should be commended for its ability to consistently block the Rams' attempts at reaching the endzone. But another interesting aspect about the game was Gabbert's ability to lead the team to an impressive victory.

"When we got things rolling, we were executing at a high level," he said. "We kept fighting. We kept chipping away, and we got the W. That's all that matters in this league."

Coach Chip Kelly admitted that he was impressed with what Gabbert showed on the field on Monday especially since it was his first regular season game as a starter.

"We have all the confidence in the world in him," he said during a post-game press conference. "You look at the ball he threw to Vance [McDonald] for the touchdown. He ripped that one in there. He threw a couple to Torrey [Smith], I mean to Quinton Patton on the out route where we had some big plays when we needed to get some things generated."

"Again, first game in our system, understanding what he's doing," he added. "First real love game. There were some real positives that we can build upon with him."

Right now, Kaepernick is serving as Gabbert's backup. But given what Kelly and the rest of the NFL community saw on Monday, it seems the San Francisco organization can do away without Kaepernick, especially now that the athlete has been marred with controversies because of his recent protests.
