Earlier today, running back and former free agent Justin Forsett confirmed that he has signed a contract with the Detroit Lions to be part of their active roster. Aside from adding depth to the team's lineup, his presence in the Lions could also signify the end of Ameer Abdullah and Dwayne Washington's careers with the team.

The veteran athlete broke the news early morning today by posting a GIF of a lion on his Twitter account. This was then followed by an announcement from the team stating that Forsett is now a member of the Detroit franchise.

Before joining the Lions, Forsett was with the Baltimore Ravens since 2014. However, just last month, he was released by the Ravens only to re-sign with the team a couple of days later. But, at Week 4, Baltimore decided to part ways with Forsett with good.

The move by the Ravens came as a surprise for fans due to the fact that Forsett has been an integral part of the team's offense. Fortunately for the athlete though, he didn't spend much time as a free agent since he was immediately picked up by the Lions.

Aside from adding a reliable running back to the lineup, the Lions' decision to sign Forsett was apparently made to fill a necessary gap in its roster. Last month, the team placed Abdullah on injured reserve due to a foot injury that he received during the Week 2 game against the Tennessee Titans.

Apart from Abdullah, the Lions are also missing Washington, who missed out on Week 5's game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a foot injury.

With these two athletes out, the Lions are in desperate need to add someone to their running back bench. With him on Forsett on the team, the Detroit franchise will no longer have to worry about Washington and Abdullah missing more games in the future.

And, if Forsett performs better than expected, then the Lions could gain good trade options for Abdullah and Washington once they have fully recovered. The team could use these to get maybe another quality running back or even possibly a quarterback to add depth to its bench.
