Following the Carolina Panthers' devastating loss to the New Orleans Saints at Week 6, the team's chances of making it to the playoffs have started to slip away. This could lead the team to make a drastic change to its lineup, such as by trading away starting quarterback Cam Newton.

On Sunday, the Panthers suffered their fourth consecutive loss at the hands of the Saints. This also marked their fifth loss in the current NFL season.

Their current 1-5 record is a stark contrast to the team's performance last year, which can arguably be considered as the best season of the Panthers in Carolina's history in the NFL. Back in 2015, the Panthers went through the entire season with only one loss, which was handed to them by the Atlanta Falcons at Week 16.

But aside from going through a disappointing year, the team's current record also greatly endangers its chances of heading into the playoffs this year. This could lead the organization's head officials to demand a drastic change to the team's lineup.

If it comes down to this, the main target for a possible trade could be Newton. Currently, Newton only has one win under his belt, which was against the San Francisco 49ers.

Given his current performance, which is now very different from how he used to play, the Panthers could send Newton to the trading block for a more effective starting quarterback. Carolina will probably not have a hard time finding potential trade partners especially since there are a lot of teams that are currently missing their starting quarterbacks due to injuries.

Of course, in return, the Panthers will most likely ask for a high trade value for Newton. After all, the team will probably opt for another starting quarterback instead of a backup to Derek Anderson and Joe Webb.

As for Newton, he certainly had a rough day on Sunday following the Panthers' latest loss. In fact, during a post-game press conference, he appeared before reporters looking dejected. The conference didn't last very long either since Newton walked out on the press after he was grilled about the game and his performance.
