The Cincinnati Bengals are currently facing a huge problem that could force them to sign free agent David Cobb. The team would most likely make this move following the serious injury suffered by running back Cedric Peerman last week.

Cobb debuted in the NFL in 2015 after he was selected by the Tennessee Titans during the fifth round of last year's draft pick. He was officially released by the team last week following a disappointing season with the Titans.

During the first half of his rookie year, he was placed on injured reserve after suffering a calf injury. Although he was able to bounce back during the second half, he struggled in the field and was only able to appear in a total of seven games.

The Titans finally decided to release last month after they were able to acquire more effective running backs in the form of DeMarco Murray, Dexter McCluster, Derrick Henry, David Fullen, Bishop Sankey and Antonio Andrews.

Although Cobb is probably not a top choice for a running back for any team, the Bengals might have no choice but to offer him a contract due to their current need. Last Sunday during a preseason game, Peerman of the Bengals' special teams broke his left arm after getting tackled and landing badly on the ground.

Despite the seriousness of his injury, it is not yet clear he will miss out the rest of the season. However, he is expected to return to the team's roster after a couple of weeks or months.

Although the Bengals still have Giovani Bernard, Rex Burkhead, Ryan Hewitt and Jeremy Hill at the RB bench, losing Peerman still has a huge effect on the Bengals due to his contributions on the field.

With him out indefinitely, the team could resort to shopping around for a possible backup RB. Although Cobb did not work out well with the Titans, he could still prove to be a valuable asset for the Bengals. Despite his young age, he already has experience being both a backup and a starter during his short term with Tennessee. He could bring in this experience with the Bengals by service as a reliable backup running back for the team's starters.
