Following the release of Josh Brown from the New York Giants due to the domestic abuse charges filed against him, another athlete from the NFL could be facing the same situation. According to reports, the league has spoken to Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott regarding the domestic violence allegations made by his former girlfriend.

As noted by various sources, the allegations against Elliott were made in September before the start of the 2016 NFL season. However, charges against the professional athlete were not made due to conflicting information regarding the matter, according to USA Today.

This, however, does not automatically mean that the issue is over for Elliott. As seen during the past few weeks, the NFL has been criticized regarding the case of Brown, the former kicker for the Giants.

He was released by the New York franchise earlier this week after John Mara, the co-owner of the giants, admitted that the team knew that Brown had been abusing his ex-wife verbally and physically when he was re-signed in April of this year.

Because of this, the team and the league were criticized for how they handled the matter. This particular blunder could affect Elliott as well since the NFL will probably be more meticulous about domestic abuse charges following what happened to Brown's case.

According to reports, even though no charges were filed against Elliott, the league is still keeping the matter open, which means investigations will still be conducted on the Cowboys star player. Depending on the findings of investigator or the developments regarding the matter, the league could decide on suspending Elliott until the subject has been resolved.

His absence will, of course, affect the performance of the Dallas franchise, which is currently enjoying a five-game winning streak as the team enters its bye week. The victories of the team were mainly attributed to Dak Prescott, who took on the starting quarterback spot after Tony Romo's back injury during the preseason.

But, obviously, Prescott will not be able to lead the team successfully without the other players. Specifically, Elliott has been a big part of the Cowboys' offense and has been leading the team in catches and rush plays.
