NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo In Danger of Getting Released Following Dak Prescott’s Performance

Following the Week 1 loss against the New York Giants and Tomo Romo's injury, the Dallas Cowboys seem to be doing fairly well in the season with their new starting quarterback Dak Prescott. And, based on owner, coach and general manager Jerry Jones' recent statement, it seems the Cowboys are planning on sticking with Prescott for a long time.

The Dallas franchise entered the 2016 NFL season without Romo, its starting quarterback, after he suffered a compression fracture on his back during a preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks in August.

Since then, Prescott has been taking on the passing duties for the Cowboys, and so far, he's doing a pretty solid job. At Week 5, the Dallas squad just won its fourth consecutive victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Currently, Jones is pretty happy with the Cowboys' current situation. As the year rolls along, Prescott has been showing that he has what it takes to lead the team to the playoffs this season. As noted by Jones, the Cowboys' future is pretty secured with Prescott on the line.

"It's just a question of him working back in," he said. "We've got a great situation here. I just have to pinch myself to think about. We've got Dak Prescott, who's playing at a level that is very capable of winning these games."

"We've got the future every time he walks out there," he added. "We've got the optimism of the future. It's inspiring. It's inspiring this team. And then we have, in my mind, one of the very top quarterbacks in the league as well."

Although things are starting to look good for Prescott, the same cannot be said for Romo. Currently, Romo is still in pretty bad shape because of his injury and is expected to miss quite a few more games this season.

If Prescott continues playing the way he does, then Romo might soon find himself outside of the team's roster. In other words, he could get released, and possibly be even replaced by a third-string quarterback. After all, after Prescott, veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez is currently holding down the No. 2 spot for the Cowboys.
