NFL Rumors: New England Patriots Place Aaron Dobson on Trading Block

After spending three disappointing years with Aaron Dobson, it seems New England Patriots have had enough of the wide receiver. According to sources, the Patriots are looking to trade away Dobson.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, the New England franchise is currently shopping around the 25-year old athlete.

Dobson made his debut in the NFL in 2013 after being selected by the Patriots as the 59th overall pick. After he was selected by the team, he signed a four-year contract worth $3.4 million.

He started his career with the Patriots in a fairly strong manner. He made his first career catch in Week 2 of the 2013 NFL season and managed to secure a touchdown. However, he missed Weeks 13 to 15 after injuring his foot.

When the 2014 season rolled in, he was inactive for majority of the first 12 weeks. After returning in Week 13, he injured his hamstring during a game against the Green Bay Packers. With him on injured reserve, the Patriots went on to win Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks.

The events at the 2015 season were similar to what happened to Dobson on 2014 and 2013. Due to a sprained ankle, Dobson's season with the Patriots ended early in November.

Aside from injuries, another disappointing factor about Dobson is his tendency to drop balls after catching them. As noted by Mass Live, this led to the creation of his nickname "Dropson."

According to the site, for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, Dobson only appeared in 12 games. During those times, he was only able to secure 20 passes.

For his entire career with the Patriots, he only caught a total of 53 passes for 698 yards, CBS Local reported.

Given his track record, the Patriots might have a hard time to find a team that's willing to trade for Dobson. For the Patriots though, losing him will not be a huge loss especially since the team's wide receiver bench is already pretty crowded even without him.

Currently, the team has Chrs Hogan, Keshawn Martin, Chris Harper, DeAndre Carter, Malcolm Mitchell, Devin Lucien, Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman looking to secure passes from QBs Tom Brady and Jimmy Garappolo.
