NFL Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers Signing Tarvaris Jackson to Replace Ben Roethlisberger

As the Pittsburgh Steelers head into Week 7 against the New England Patriots, the team will be without their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger who suffered an injury in last Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins. Since there's a chance that his injury could put him out of the rest of the season, the Steelers could sign veteran quarterback Tarvaris Jackson as Roethlisberger's replacement.

Roethlisberger suffered an injury to his knee last weekend when the Steelers took on the Dolphins. On Monday, following the match, coach Mike Tomlin announced that he will undergo surgery to repair the torn meniscus on the athlete's injured left knee.

The procedure will certainly take out Roethlisberger from the team's upcoming game against the Patriots on Sunday, which means the Steelers will have to rely on backup quarterback Landry Jones as his temporary replacement.

However, since there's a great chance that Roethlisberger will not be able to return for a long time, or maybe even for the rest of the 2016 NFL season, the Pittsburgh franchise should start looking for a long-term solution.

Although playing Jones might be good for the team, the Steelers can only play him for the next could of games given his lack of experience as a starting quarterback. What the team needs is someone who has the experience and veteran status to lead a squad during high-pressure situations.

That someone could be Jackson, the former backup quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Currently, Jackson is a free agent, which means the Pittsburgh franchise can offer him a contract anytime.

In addition, even though Jackson never became a permanent starting quarterback in his entire career in the NFL, he still has the background to lead the Steelers. After all, during his last year with the Seahawks, Jackson replaced Russell Wilson during the fourth quarter during the Super Bowl XLVIII match against the Denver Broncos.

Aside from being the first time in decades that a backup QB played in the Super Bowl, Jackson also helped the Seahawks win their first championship title.

Although the Steelers are doing fairly well in the season, their record can improve with Jackson on the lineup.
