The quarterback drama of the San Francisco 49ers appears to be nearing its end. While Colin Kaepernick mourns the possible loss of his slot in the Denver Broncos roster after Paxton Lynch signed with the Super Bowl 50 champs, the Jarryd Hayne squad appears to be moving on. Unfortunately for Kaepernick, the Chip Kelly team seems to be walking away from his contract as well. Will Kap sit out another NFL season?
The previous NFL season, which saw a colorful display of strengths among teams like the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers, ended poorly for the San Francisco 49ers. Unlike Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton, the quarterback drama of the Jarryd Hayne team contributed major damage to the group. Although the season is over, the issue remains with the San Francisco 49ers. Sources claim that Kaepernick has been asking for an NFL trade before the next year begins. However, no takers have come forward due to his salary demands and the complicated contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
While Kaepernick attempts to get out of the NFL team, the San Francisco 49ers are content in their new leader - Blaine Gabbert. According to reports, the once backup of Kap is now turning into the formidable playmaker of the football team. Moreover, Gabbert has earned the respect and admiration of both the locker room and the coaching staff.
"He's definitely taking control," shared Garrett Celek of Gabbert. The San Francisco 49ers tight end added, "Whoever's at quarterback needs to take control and be our leader out there. And he's definitely doing that. He's making good decisions on the field."
Another member of the San Francisco 49ers roster, Zane Beadles, also shared his admiration of Gabbert. He said, "He carries himself very well in the locker room. He seems like a true professional. He's always in there studying and he knows what we're trying to accomplish and what he needs to do at the quarterback position. I've seen all good things from him."
With the changes in the San Francisco 49ers especially following the entry of Chip Kelly, the former head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, it appears that the team will see more tweaks in their routines soon. However, the changes might affect Kaepernick the most. If Kap fails to attract other NFL teams to sign him, then there is a huge chance that he will sit out this coming season once again. Although no word has been out on who will be the starting quarterback, it looks like Gabbert has earned the approval of Kelly.
"(I'm) impressed with Blaine," shared Kelly. He added, "You watch him the last couple of games he started. He's another guy, you look at his skill set. He took off against the Bears and went (44) yards for a touchdown. He ran 4.61 in the combine when he was coming out."
